startup hangs

Update:  Oddly enough, the problem went away after I booted into X and then rebooted into YDL.  Seems strange to me that a problem on Linux should be solved by a reboot, but oh well.  Still, let me know if you have any idea what caused it in the
first place, in case the problem recurs.
