That's odd. Of course, many things about Linux are odd. :-)

This works in Yellow Dog Linux -- maybe it will work for you:

[1] Set the date from a network time server:

[root]# /usr/bin/rdate -s time.mit.edu

[2] Synchronize the hardware date with he system date:

[root]# /sbin/hwclock --systohc

I have found that this can fix several other irritating issues, too.
