Trouble starting mol

I'm running mol on an iBook 800, with YDL 3.0.1.  I'm running the 2g
kernel. 

When I type startmol -X an X-window opens and all I have is a cog-wheel
or flower thing at the bottom, but now other action.

startmol --test reports that all is well.
startmol -X does report that the kernel is tainted, in Konsole

I have edited the config file to reflect that my OSX partition is at
dev/hda7

Still nothing more happens.

Am I missing something?
