make sure you have at least gcc installed...one thing I recommend and
do myself is if you're going to be compiling apps you might as well go
back into your distro setup and install all compilation/programming
related packages as you never know which package will come up as a
necesity when compiling a package which generally goes like this:

Extract tar to a directory

Open terminal and cd to the directory

./configure

make

make install
