For the "cat /etc/termcap" check, 4 or 8 MB is plenty.
I just tried it on a 650MHz x86 laptop with 4 MB shared video:
	2.2s	xterm
	2.0	rxvt
	0.9	gnome-terminal
though the termcap there (RH 7.1) is about 25 KB larger than the
YDL 2.1 version.
