Sound on Pismo/2.2

Recently complained that there was no sound on my recent install of 2.2 
on my pismo 400.  I have read a lot of posts about why it does not work 
in the past.  So when I started X it did not surprise me that there was 
none.  Today though I started X and then logout to CLI.  I then 
restarted X and sound worked.  Well I couldn't get a CD to play but the 
KDE sound plays.  So its working right?  Anyone experience this or is 
sound working well on systems.
