convert-to-ext3 and OldWorld/BootX systems?

Does ext3 really work only with yaboot as this script seems to indicate?
[My recollection is that yaboot is NewWorld only, which aces me out...]

I would think it would work just fine with BootX, given that the kernel
is located on a MacOS volume, and ext3 support is supposed to be built
into modern kernels, no?

If not, can I just convert all partitions except my root partition to
ext3?
