PowerBook's built-in modem

After a few tries, I finally have a working YDL on my PowerBook 1998. 
The only thing that I have not been able to configure is the internal 
modem. Dialup Configuration does not detect anything and thus I 
cannot use the PowerBook with my dial-up account.
Needless to say, I can connect fine when running under Mac OS 8.6.

Is there anything obvious I am missing?
