YDL 2.2 starts installing and freezes...(B/W G3)

Here is a repost to a non-answered question:

I have YDL 2.1 installed and try to go to 2.2. Burned the CD as usual, 
boot on the CD, the
installer shows up, loads the kernel (tried 2.4 and 2.2 in text or gui 
there) and then it freezes
up with the following message:

pmac_init(): exit
id mach(): done
MMU: enter

I also tried the trick with install-gui hdc=ide-scsi with no succes, still
the same message.

never seen that before... any clue any-one?
