Can't install 2.4 kernel on a 6400 - more info

Greetings,

I wrote the other day about the YellowDog installer crashing out with a
kernel error every time I tried to install YD 2.2. Some new info: the
installation works if I use the 2.2 kernel! It only crashes on the 2.4
kernel.

My system:

Performa 6400 / 200 MHz 603e
56 MB RAM
8 GB hard drive
Everything else is stock.

Can anyone think of why this is happening? Could I not have enough RAM?
Could the 2.4 kernel not work on my old machine? It crashes while
installing the first few packages.

Thank you! Any ideas would help out a lot.

Jeff
