2.2 Installer fails (package install failed error)

Did we definitely determine that the problem was a
lack of  space.  I've got a 5.8 GB partition I haven't
been able to get any of the packages to install (keep
getting the package failed to install error.)  I had
the same problem with 2.1, but I was able to get the
base install to work.  My gut feeling is that there is
something slightly more insidious going on that is
causing this failure.
