Installing MacOS over YDL

iMac Bondi Blue rev A. I don't easily have access to another mac. As for
making a bootable CD, the MacOS 9.2.1 CD I have is bootable, and it contains
the firmware update needed, but when I run the update it attempts to write
the update to the system folder and reboot. Of course it can't write to the
system folder because it's a CD. I run linux on a mac just fine, but I have
had little experience with MacOS itself. Would a properly made boot disk
avoid the problem I am having? Thanks for your help.
John
