Suitability of Beige Desktop G3 for YDL

I must be blessed....

I checked the thrift shop on Thursday about an hour before it closed
and the G3 still wasn't priced. I came back Friday morning about an
hour after they opened and it was already priced and sold. Someone
snaked it from me :'( Other than a broken iMac, it was the only G3
or better Mac I'd ever seen there.

Today I stopped in on the way back from lunch, and discovered a beige
G3 tower sitting on the shelf for $35. Clerk said they weren't sure
it worked because it didn't boot up with the monitor sitting next to
it. Well, I had checked out that monitor a month ago (Apple 17") and
the monitor itself didn't work. I plugged it into another one down
the rack and it fired right up :')

It's only a 233, with 96 MB ram, but my understanding is that the
tower was a better unit than the desktop anyway. Yes, you read the
price right. $35. There is an uncovered slot in the back that I
don't recognize. It's a bit higher than the conventional sized
slots, and isn't perfectly rectangle. Anyone know what it is?
