latest benh kernel on powerbooks [was Re: CUPS errors]

Thanks for your quick response. Seems to be easier than I expected, at
least with a TiBook 400MHz which is what I have too. I had some
discussion a week or so ago with someone using the benh kernel on a
revIII TiBook who reported that neither the modem nor sleep would work
for him. So maybe his problems were a hardware issue or due to an
inappropriate kernel config. While the modem is not so important for
me (I'm happy with my DSL line :), sleep in fact is. The only trouble
I had with it so far was broken firewire after wake up. But I found a
workaround I can live with (see my posting of July 23).
I don't care very much about sound if at least I can hear the system
bell (I much more like what comes out off my standalone DVD player
;). Though it would be nice to have decent mp3 playback occasionally
which currently doesn't really work with the stock YDL setup.
So I think I'll give the benh kernel a try as soon as I find time for
it, especially since my current system's performance feels a bit
degraded compared to the previous 2.0/2.1 installation. Hope I can
contribute a success story within some days.
