How do I create a bootable disk

When I made myself a bootable rescue disk for my Mac, all the magic went 
into creating the ISO, not into burning it.  Burn the ISO onto a CD just 
as you would any other ISO.

(This might be different on an old Mac with a different booting 
mechanism; mine is a Cube.)
