Installing 2.3 - Newbie

[A Maloney]

Using a G4 Mac with two 60 GB hard drives.
Trying to install 2.3 on the second drive, which is partitioned 30/30 GB.
First partition for Mac OS 9.

Assigned space as described in the manual
hdb10	 	hfs 	10MB
hdb11 	swap 	swap 	256MB
hdb12	/	ext2	27.7GB

However setpoints change hdb10 to 	ext2	 10MB

Get msg "Errors running transaction set"
I gather this msg refers to lack of disc space.

Why does the installer change my partition info?

How do I get around this? [I presume this is the problem I have with 
installation]
