Install problem

I'm having problems installing Yellow Dog Linux 2.3 on
my PowerMac 8500.  I get the following error when trying
to do Package Installation:

	Could not create rpm directories or
	database: exceptions.Exception: [Errno 17]
	file exists: /tmp/root/var

I downloaded the dayton-2.3-20020704-install.iso image.
