 Getting root access isn't hard if you have physical access. The only
crappy part is rebooting a machine you can't log into. This means you'll
have to either hit reset or cycle power.

 Afterwords, at the kernel selection prompt, type 'linux single'. You will
boot into single user mode with root access (no password needed). Then
you can do whatever you want to the password files.
