install fails: cannot partition

Try partitioning the drive with the MacOS Drive Setup utility.  If you want 
to use it all for Linux, create a single partition of any convenient type 
(HFS will do) which you will then (under the YDL installer) delete and 
repartition as you want for your YDL installation.

This procedure worked for me in an identical configuration.

I have a beige G3 with the master IDE drive setup for MacOS, and the slave 
drive setup for YDL.  I boot using BootX.
