install torture

I've tried to install a dozen times w/o success.  Following
instructions to the letter, everything goes fine through 'package
installation' but it crashes with a segmentation fault on 'startup
services' or 'account creation'.

Bug report:

OSError: [Error 2, no such file]
'/tmp/root/etc/sysconfig/console/default/default.kmap'

Using:

beige G3
6GB ata drive master for YDL
6GB ata drive slave for MacOS 8.6
atapi zip 100
atapi cd-rom

I was advised to keep a zip disk in the drive, but that didn't help.  No I
didn't add and delete partition during the same session. Your advice is
appreciated.
