Hello

While searching these list archives, I certainly came across a number of
powerbook questions recently, but none has quite solved my monitor
setting issue yet. So, here's another one!

Machine=3D 1998 Wallstreet powerbook, 233/14.1/192/30GB/ATI rage pro lt
(ATY Mach64 )

YDL=3D 2.3 (2.4.19 kernel, comes with v4.2 Xwindows?)

Problem: YDL runs real nice in init3 (no GUI), but has horrible monitor
vertical striping when runnign x in init5.
BootX arguments (video=3Datyfb:vmode:14) # current and recommended =
setting

Dumb things I have tried:
Have tried vmode 15, 16, 17 (different refresh rates at 1024x768) #no
improvement
Have tried the above vmode settings with the 2.2 kernel that YDL 2.3
also installs #no improvement
Have tried selecting the no driver box in BootX #boot sequence hangs
Have tried entering Linux novideo #get 640x480 tiled monitor effect
Have tried vmode:10 #get a 800x600 monitor that works well in X, but
tiled on 1024x768. But no striping.
Have tried changing /etc/sysconfig/desktop to GNOME # NO change, but the
Gnome environment.

Have run /usr/lib/yi/dexter.py and reselect monitor (1024x768, 32bit
color (and 8 and 16), with and without Xconfigurator setting hardware
acceleration #no improvement or changes. I have tried a number, but not
all combinations of settings here.

My only idea remaining is to manually edit the /etc/X11/X86Config4 file.

Questions: Is this where all the X settings are held?
Are there other arguments to pass into the kernel from BootX?
Can someone with a working powerbook email me their Xconfig file(s), so
I can manually tinker with the settings. I am unsure what to change in
this file.

Tia for any new ideas and links thrown my way.

Rob
(somewhere along the way I hosed the Open Firmware settings and cannot
boot back into OSX, but that is another problem for another day;-)

Rob
