corruption after crash

I went ahead and reformatted my partitions, and installed YDL 2.3. But the
problem is still there, in every different video mode I've tried!  Is
there something that could happen to the hardware (video card or monitor)
which linux would be unable to handle correctly, but that MacOS still
does?
