Ok all - been hacking at this for three days and over 18 installation
attempts. first, couldn't get the installer to recognize my hard drive.
Yes, I now know it's because it is on Bus 2 although it will read as
HDA. After trolling through the mess that is this list for about four
hours, I came upon some things to try

IDE=NODMA                 No cigar
HDA=/dev/rdisk0            No cigar
HDA=DMA                    No cigar

This problem does NOT seem to be endemic only to YDL on this particular
beast of a machine I have so I can't ding YD too much for it. I found
the solution on the Mandrake PPC site, you have to pass the following at
the boot prompt during install.

Install-text <or whatever you want.install-gui being default>
hda=16383,16,64

What exactly that means, you got me. But it works. Great - now I can
install. I have run through this install with both OS9 and OSX on the
machine, together, separate partitions, one or the other (either OS9
only or OSX only) and linux only (i.e. taking the entire drive). I
ALWAYS get to the same part, it completely installs and asks if I want
to install the bootloader onto /dev/hda# (whatever number partition the
bootstrap is marked for, the number of course depends on my partition
set up), then it fails with the following error:

TypeError: bad operand type(s) for +

            File "./bootloader.py", line 463, in configure
            Self.append=self.append = ("%s = ide-scsi" % device)

            File "./template.py", line 57, in __call__
            Return self.configure(args)

Now, I have seen a less detailed couple of messages mentioning the
"bootloader.py" with no follow-ups or solution. The error tells me to
email this error/bug report to the email address
bugs@xxxxx.yellowdog.whatever which I have done THREE times. I have
received no help. Is this a showstopper that I just say "hell with it"
and go order Mandrake (which no store in Kansas carries) or can someone
help? I have been running Linux on x86 platforms since the 386 and
RedHat Linux 1.x so I am pretty familiar with Linux and how it works.
Feel free to include as much technical information as might be helpful
and I should be able to follow without too much difficulty. Yellow Dog's
site, docs and otherwise have been absolutely NO help so I hope someone
here can lend a hand.

Thanks!
