Success!
Being a relative newbie it passed my attention that I had to include
"root=/dev/hda14" in the yaboot.conf file... That was also missing on
the instructions at www.ibooklinux.net.
image=/boot/vmlinux-2.4.19-pre10-ben0
label=linux-2.4.19-pre10-ben0
root=/dev/hda14
read-only
Otherwise all systems go. It straightened out the inverted or negative
color scheme of my desktop. I was then able to change 8 bit color to
"24".
