Thomas,
I ran ldconfig but I get the following message running apt-get kdebase.
[root@localhost jim]# /sbin/ldconfig
[root@localhost jim]# apt-get kdebase
E: Invalid operation kdebase
[root@localhost jim]#
Plus I still get the following message when I run apt-get upgrade
[root@localhost jim]# apt-get --no-remove upgrade
Processing File Dependencies... Done

You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these.
Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
kdebase: Depends: /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess but it is not installable
Depends: /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers but it is not installable
Depends: /etc/X11/xdm/Xwilling but it is not installable
Depends: /etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0 but it is not installable
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.
[root@localhost jim]#
Any further ideas... :)
