6500 install hell

Hmm... tell that to the two fat ATA drives running as master & slave on my
beige box... ;) ... Ah, I see the venerable Mr. Seufert has already set us
straight on that count. Excellent as always, sir.

BTW, added another 32MB stick to the 6500 (surprise! there /was/ still RAM
in that old PowerCenter!) and it is happily running from the 4GB. I
have not tried reinstalling, but I discovered that the last few
reinstallation attempts had not even gotten far enough to reformat
the drive, so it's bootable, but unfinished (no /etc/sysconfig, for
one thing).

Sadly, I just arranged to sell the machine, but I am *certain* that
another will fall into my lap by and by, and in the meantime, the revenues
from this sale will allow me to put a HD in the G3 Mainstreet I was given
this morning...  :) From preliminary glances, that machine looks similar
to the beige G3, so if all goes well I won't have to bug you gentlefolk
again (at least until I have to run X).
