This is definitely possible. I don't have exact details, but there should
be an easy way to restart PCMCIA services by looking in /etc/init.d and
for a file that looks like the pcmcia service. Usually, something like
pcmcia or whatever (don't have pcmcia support on this machine). Restarting
would then be something like (whilst in init.d directory):-

$ ./pcmcia restart
