PHP won't work with MySQL: help!

Hi Folks-

I've got a freshly installed YDL 2.2 system with PHP and MySQL. 
Unfortunately, I've tried to run a couple of PHP scripts that utilize 
MySQL calls and there seems to be a problem.  I've done a phpinfo() 
check to see what I've got installed, and I see the following line:

'--with-mysql=shared,/usr'

in the configuration command section.

Any idea what the problem could be?
