Hi Robert:

The USA's internal and external policies are run in
the majority by the oil lobby. Formulating policy
behind closed doors (despite court orders to open the
books), these individuals have a very different view
of the USA than a typical Linux user. Washington
supports M$ in much the same way. (A Canadian
programmer found the 'third' key to Win 98 afew years
ago - the key used to open any Win 98 box on this
planet.)
Europe is actively promoting self-sufficiency in
energy (Denmark, since you mentioned it, is at the
forefront).
Self-sufficiency was a founding principal of the USA.

After Steve Jobs failed to hire Linus Torvalds to work
on OSX at Apple, Jobs embarked on an ambitious
strategy
to promote Apple machines as digital hubs. His grasp
of economics is closest to that of the
military-industrial complex that still runs the USA;
planned obsolescence, conspicuous consumption,
releasing apps and OSs in beta mode but not charging
beta prices (re: the recent post about OSX Server SW).
I salute Linux developers who redeem the wastefulness
of the 'princes of darkness' by making apps and
drivers available for perfectly usable devices (mainly
Intel-based and their clones).
Cheers
George
PS: and don't forget Mac devices!
