Linux on a Quicksilver 867mhz with Studio display

yeah,

I ran 2.1 fine...minus having to go into Xconfig everytime i booted 
to get the monitor to act to my liking.

How can we get more than 256 colors...and of those 256, 251 are dark 
and unreadable.

Should I--err we--migrate back to 2.1?
