hfs problem - process for file system

this is a really nasty problem with my konqueror in kde2: almost every
time I move one or more files within my hfs partition, I receive the
message
"the process for the filesystem died inexpectedly"

Konqueror hangs and I canīt change to a different directory nor close
its window; At the Console, I can still change to and view contents of
the root directory of this partition, but every ls of any deeper
directory results in freeze of and inability to close that terminal
window also;

since re-logons as any user donīt let one access this partition and
umount also fails (device busy), I know no other way out than to reboot
, and this makes my linux mostly unusable, since the system is setup
with this partition for common data with MacOS (9.2 and 10.1 installed
on further separate partitions). though the files moved show up at the
new location upon reboot, and the other hfs partition is still
accessible, i thought hfs was better supported by ydl ! Besides,
konqueror is always unbelievably slow on that partition, it takes about
6 seconds to show up with the entries of a changed to directory.

My box is an iBook2 600 with ydl 2.2 installed in a quite standard way
(virtually no differences to the installation exemplified in the
ydl-video available from the ydl support site) and the partition with
these problems is really hfs, not hfs+.

Quite mysterious, isnīt it? So what could help? Is there any other
filesystem suppored both by linux and MacOS? If so, where can I get the
mkfs.* file?

:-?
