GUI Editor?

On top of what others have said, I'd suggest Kate, the KDE text editor. It
has nice, configurable syntax highlighting, text folding and other useful
features. I also use Xenon on the commercial Unix systems at work, which
don't have modern GUI libraries installed.


There's plenty of very usable alternatives.
