YDL's - XFree86-4.2 incompatibility-list ??

Hi,
I read a lot of messages here concerning missing or poor (just 8bit-)
video-support in YDL2.3, which uses XF4.2.0! So all official X-docs saying
"driver XXX works at 8/16/24/32-bit color-depth" might be somewhat
optimistic, concerning the ppc-platform. What about setting up a
incompatibility list? My first candidate:
ATI Xclaim GA PCI (88800 GX, with IBM-RAMDAC)
Explanation: XF4-docs say that on non-Intel-platforms (e.g. PPC) "linear
video memory aperture for 256-colour and higher depth modes" is required. O=
n
my machine X writes first a warning (a line beginning with (WW), that it ha=
s
found a unknown RAMDAC-type) and then an error -(EE)- "failure to open
linear aperture" to its logfile. That discovery seems to confirm postings i=
n
other lists ...; That isn't a big loss, because it is likely that it won't
do more than 8bit-color-depth anyway even if it worked
(http://www.xfree86.org/4.2.0/ati7.html#28).
Best regards,
Markus
