Michael,

Thanks for the reply!

| That is, I have one of the original iMac's. Mine is a 406. I upgraded the
| RAM to 96MB (that was a real pain). I run Mac OS 9.0.4. and YDL 2.3.

You think that's a pain? Try upgrading the hard drive! I replaced my 4GB HDD
with a 40GB - the drive is located under the CD-ROM drive which is under the
Motherboard, which is under the Daughterboard which is under the RAM! While
I was in there I replaced the top 32MB chip with 128MB for a total of 160MB
of RAM.

| Basically I started by backing up my iMac files (burned CD). Used the
Apple
| Drive utilities to split the hard drive into 2 equal 2GB partitions.
| Installed Apple OS onto the first partition.

I've done this too, using OS 9.2. (Except I've got 15GB for the MacOS and 25
for YDL).

| Then I booted the iMac with the YDL disk and ran the install... you may
want
| to just pick one of the complete installations from the selection and
| tune back later rather than using the installer to tune the configuration.

That's exactly what I did; I installed "Everything."

| The first time I did this (with YDL 2.1) I really struggled with Yaboot.
But
| since 2.2 it has done so much of the configuration I have not had any
| problems.

This is where my problem occurs. I'm using YDL 2.2 (Rome) and once the
install is finished, the iMac simply won't startup. I get a solid grey
screen and .... nothing else. :(

| Also, for what it is worth, I think the performance of my iMac with YDL is
| fast compared to how it crawled with Apple's OS.

That's what I'm counting on. :)
