HELP Re-compiled new kernel won't boot ...

This will boot linux. Now you need to remount '/' so it's writeable 
'mount -o remount rw /' 
Then you should be a able to edit yaboot and run ybin. Then remount / and ro and reboot. You should be good to go.  At least it works for me. :-)
