modem and shutdown

As far as I understand, you need to leave the localhost settings the same.
I don't know why, but I've seen this in bold print in more than one thread.
Look for me in the yellowdog newbies archive. I had exactly the same
problem as you. It went away when I configured my network. Look for the
thread in the archives of the newbies list. My settings are listed there. I
don't know what exactly fixed the problem, but at the same time I was
trying to connect to earthlink, I was also trying to network my two
computers. When I solved the second problem, the first went away. Alls well
that ends well, right???
