apt-get woes

You may want to check your sources file and make sure you *ONLY* have the repositories for 2.3. Then
'apt-get clean'
'apt-get update'
'apt-get dist-upgrade'
I have done an upgrade from 2.1 to 2.3. And once you have apt-get installed in 2.1 without breaking any dependencies you should be ok.
