natd replacement for connection sharing?

Iptables.  http://www.netfilter.org/

There are also a lot of scripts at www.freshmeat.net that use iptables,
too.  You might want to give some of those a try.

And, if I remember correctly, www.tldp.org has a HOWTO on how to do it.
