Just one data point relative to OS X. I have a Quicksilver Dual 1 GHz PM running OS X 10.2. I had an Adaptec 2906 card in it, but Retrospect refused to work with it.

Since all cards officially supported by Retrospect seemed to be in the $200+ range, I bought an Atto ExpressPCI UL2D pull from Other World Computing for $29. It wasn't listed as supported (the UL3D was the lowest model listed), but for 29 bucks, what the heck.

Works great. And even more interesting is that the Apple System Profiler reports it as a UL3D, not a UL2d.
