Hi!

I'm losing it, here. :) I'm trying to follow some instructions in a book =
on=20
AMP, the apache, mySQL, PHP suite of programs to run a web server. I'm tr=
ying=20
to do it on YDL 2.3 on my G3 Apple Tower (B$W).=20

I get to the install mySQL part of the book (like, page 4!) and it says t=
o do=20
this "./scripts/mysql_install_db" I do it, and get this error in my=20
hostname.err log:

021026 19:19:03  mysqld started
/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld: /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld: cannot execute=20
binary$
021026 19:19:04  mysqld ended

021026 19:27:46  mysqld started
/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld: /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld: cannot execute=20
binary$
021026 19:27:46  mysqld ended

I get this error in the Console:

=2E/scripts/mysql_install_db: ./bin/my_print_defaults: cannot execute bin=
ary=20
file
WARNING: The host '120-129-58-66-cable' could not be looked up with resol=
veip.
This probably means that your libc libraries are not 100 % compatible
with this binary MySQL version. The MySQL deamon, mysqld, should work
normally with the exception that host name resolving will not work.
This means that you should use IP addresses instead of hostnames
when specifying MySQL privileges !

=2E/scripts/mysql_install_db: ./bin/mysqld: cannot execute binary file
Installation of grant tables failed!

Examine the logs in ./data for more information.
You can also try to start the mysqld demon with:
=2E/bin/mysqld --skip-grant &
You can use the command line tool
=2E/bin/mysql to connect to the mysql
database and look at the grant tables:

shell> ./bin/mysql -u root mysql
mysql> show tables

Try 'mysqld --help' if you have problems with paths. Using --log
gives you a log in ./data that may be helpful.

The latest information about MySQL is available on the web at
http://www.mysql.com
Please consult the MySQL manual section: 'Problems running mysql_install_=
db',
and the manual section that describes problems on your OS.
Another information source is the MySQL email archive.
Please check all of the above before mailing us!
And if you do mail us, you MUST use the ./bin/mysqlbug script!

I'm at a loss. I've tried the web site, the YDL one and the SQL one, to n=
o=20
avail. Same with the mysql --help file. My brain ain't built for this, I=20
suppose. Any ideas? Any place I can look, or talk to a real person? Is it=
=20
YDL? IF I download a newer version fromthe mysql site, which do I choose?=
=20
THere are so many rpm's!

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
