Internet connection but host not found

Thank you very much for your responses.  They've all cleared up some
confusion and I've now got a few things to try at home tonight.  #1.  This
default route problem makes sense and I do recall a 0.0.0.0 when I ran
/sbin/route before.  Not sure which I'll try first - removing eht0 or "route
del default", probabily the later as it doesn't actually delete something.
Also thanks to Cynthia for the info - I could only find the "Internet
Configuration" icon in the "Start Here" location (this is YDL 2.3) - will
try find RH PPP dialer -(could only find KPPP in the kde menus and nothing
in Gnome but rather something with a name like "Internet Configuration", in
the Internet sub menu and "Start Here" location).  I believe I'll come right
now with all this advice at my disposal so thanks, thanks and more thanks.
