 From your description, since other AppleTalk servers work fine 
through your router, I'd guess that either netatalk or the Linux 
kernel has some kind of AppleTalk networking bug.  But that really is 
a guess -- for all I know there's some setting you can change and all 
will suddenly begin to work.
