new G4 towers - follow up

hi everybody, 

thanks for all your advices on which graphics card to select.  
the main purpose of this machine will be scientific computing (as i
said) and not gaming, implying that the fastest graphical performances
will not be critical in my application.  i will therefore go for the
radeon 9000 Pro, since it looks as if i may get it working soon enough in 
a state that will be acceptable for what i want to do.  
i've got a few other question as well.  will any adc screen work whatever
size i'll go for?  i know that 17" works fine already (i have one with my
older g4+nvidia geforce2), but what about if i go for the 22" or 23" lcd
panels (regardless of their price...)?  i've seen reports for problems
with the 22" panel.  
concerning the double processor, will the standard smp kernel that goes
with ydl2.3 work fine, and make proper use of the 2 Gb of RAM that i plan
to install in the g4??  
i will certainly run cpu tests on both macosX and linux to see which one
is quickest (assuming i manage to have both setup work...) and to compare
with the performances i was getting with the older macs.
