YDL 2.1 + grip -- mouse sticking, phantom clicks

I'm running YDL 2.1 on a 600MHz iBook2. When I run 'grip', the
cursor freezes and phantom clicks are created. If, for example, you
move the cursor around, like on the KDE taskbar it unpredictably
behaves as if a real trackpad button press occurred.

Has anyone else experienced this and/or have a clue about the cause
and/or correction?
