Again: ATI Radeon + X11 + Formac flat display problems

I played a little with that, and had some success... As other people might
have the same problem, here are my (preliminary) solutions.

Added "video=radeon:1280x1024-8@60" to the kernel args to get full-screen
video. In the boot messages I found

radeonfb: ATI Radeon 7500 QW DDR SGRAM 32 MB
radeonfb: DVI port no monitor connected
radeonfb: CRT port no monitor connected

This looks as if there is no check made for a monitor at the ADC port, which
might explain the problem.

Using the modeline (actually a VESA mode w/ 60 Hz v sync at 64 kHz h sync)

"1280x1024" 108.0 1280 1328 1440 1688 1024 1025 1028 1066

I got a stable image. The flicker is *mostly* gone. However, I still can see
flickering pixels when I run gnome's "sol" solitaire game spider. In the
white area of playing cards, some "noise" is visible. It seems to decrease a
little when switching form 24 bit to 15 bit color depth. This happens when
using the ati (or the radeon) driver as well as with the fbdev driver (which
runs only with 15 bits). Any idea?

Thanks,

	Albrecht.
