pbbuttonsd (not GNOME) is trying to be more than a buttons daemon, it's
also doing some Power Management stuff (Notice how your screen goes less
bright if you dont use the system for a few seconds?).

Anyways, edit /etc/pbbuttonsd.conf to get rid of the annoying behavior.
