Problems with activating new kernel

Hi,
I wanted to update my kernel from 2.4.20-8d to 2.4.22-2f. Updated with
yum and have copied the vmlinux-2.4.22-2fBOOT to the Mac partition and
selected it in Boot X (old world machine, yes) and when I started in
Yellow Dog I became a kernel panic right from the start.

Does anybody know why that hadn't worked?
