12/2 G5 install disks -- kernel panic on boot

Eric,
   I'm using the 9600Pro with a ViewSonic P810 monitor at 1600x1200 16 bits.
Here is how I got there:
1) make sure YDL is booting with 'video=ofonly' as part of the boot string
2) run (as root I believe) 'Xautoconfig --sane'
3) you should have a 'workable' XF86Config script, and startx should
     get you a 640x400 8bit screen.
4) Pull up the Display config menu (under system settings) set your resolution
and depth as desired. Under 'advanced' set your monitor type, your vmem
size (64Mb), and the video card to 'unsupported Generic OF'. This should
get your XF86Config up to snuff. If not, let me know and I'll send you my
XF86Config to use as a starter. You'd probably have to tweak it
for the monitor
     and resolutions.
