12/2 G5 install disks -- kernel panic on boot

This worked for me -- I set the resolution to 800x600 and was able to boot
off the CD with no kernel panics, I installed fine (some kind of weird
problem with CD 2 not being able to load, but I figure I can just install
the development stuff and X and the rest from the 'net)...

BUT, my machine doesn't want to respect the yaboot install.

I went through the install process, created a bootstrap partition and
properly formatted it, set up yaboot during the boot process. Installed and
rebooted and....back in OS X.

I tried booting into OF and doing "boot hd:10" (10 is the partition number
of my bootstrap partition) but that didn't work. I tried doing "boot
hd:10,yaboot" but that didn't work. I tried doing "boot disk0s10" and that
gave me a circle with a slash through it. I tried doing "boot
disk0s10,yaboot" and was told that the file name didn't exist. I tried
doing "boot disk0s12" (12 is my root partition) and got the circle/slash
again. Tried "boot disk0s12,boot" and got the circle slash. Tried "boot
disk0s12,/boot" and got the circle/slash. Tried "boot
disk0s12,/boot/vmlinux-2.6.0-0test11asmp" and got the circle with a slash.

All of this was in OpenFirmware.

I'm fresh out of ideas. Anyone with one is heartily encouraged to share it
-- I'd really like to get this thing up and running....
