Yellow Dog Apple display LCD problem

Hey Guys

Hardware; G4/500, 1,5 gig memory: Mac Edition Radeon AGP Card: using 
Apple Studio Display (LCD) DVI output and Yellow Dog Linux v2.3. This 
thing refuses to boot my screen unless with linux=novideo is chosen. 
After command "startx" I get the worst video 8 bit 256 color muddy 
ever. What gives here?  I'm linux novice but installation help is for 
the birds. Is there some Kernel update needed or what?

I'm ready to take this back to Fry's. Just use OSX and forget this 
Linux crap.
